JGL Note: All life forms have complex behaviors. Probably none so beautiful and fun as the chipmunk. It appears that they can be completely vegetarian if needed. This would have been the case before the Fall. When I look at the general appearance of the 3 types of chipmunks they are structurally very similar except for the hair patterning. Geographically, the T minimus extends towards Alaska (within Canada) and E sibiricus (Siberian form) extends to the very western reaches of Northern Asia. It is thought that there are similarities in the mDNA (Journal of Mammalian Evolution, Vol. 7, No. 3, 2000). Of course the data was placed within the context of phylogeny, but differences could be related to subsequent isolation post expansion westward post Flood and loss of the bridge across the Bering Strait. But, this is conjecture by myself given limited data that I have. Nonetheless, variations in animal forms do not need to be placed within an evolutionary framework. As well, humans should enjoy God's Creation but not worship it.
"Tamias minimus (Least Chipmunk)-seen in Sequoia National Park CA. Chipmunks are small, striped rodents of the family Sciuridae. Chipmunks are found in North America, with the exception of the Siberian chipmunk which is found primarily in Asia...Chipmunks may be classified either as a single genus...The genus name Tamias is Greek for "treasurer", "steward", or "housekeeper", which is a reference to the animals' role in plant dispersal through their habit of collecting and storing food for winter use...Chipmunks have an omnivorous diet primarily consisting of seeds, nuts and other fruits, and buds...as well as fungi, insects and other arthropods, small frogs, worms, and bird eggs....They mostly cache their foods in a larder in their burrows and remain in their nests until spring, unlike some other species which make many small caches of food.Cheek pouches allow chipmunks to carry food items to their burrows for either storage or consumption." We must remember that social reform must be attempted using the foundations of God's Principles as found in the Old and New Testaments of the Sacred Scriptures. Apart from God's Laws social reform becomes decadent and perverted. But, I find William Wilberforce a true example of a Christian in the midst of a battle for reform. He was a key proponent for the elimination of the slave trade in the early 1800's in England. See article from Christianity Today below: William Wilberforce Antislavery politician"So enormous, so dreadful, so irremediable did the [slave] trade's wickedness appear that my own mind was completely made up for abolition. Let the consequences be what they would: I from this time determined that I would never rest until I had effected its abolition." Today Christians can be involved in a number of social issues: to oppose abortion and help mothers in need; defend the Godly concept of marriage; feeding the poor; and in some parts of the world help to eliminate the slave trade still going on. Yet, in all of these issues and others Christ and His forgiveness for sin must be proclaimed.
The 'Nashville Statement' on Marriage by Joel Tay
"In late August 2017, 159 prominent evangelical theologians and pastors signed a declaration known as the ‘Nashville Statement’.2 This statement of faith consists of a preamble followed by 14 short affirmations and 14 denials dealing with biblical sexuality—specifically focusing on the subject of homosexuality, gender and marriage...The Nashville Statement defines marriage as a covenantal, sexual, procreative, lifelong union of one man and one woman, as husband and wife; and sexual intercourse is only permitted within the boundaries of such a marriage. This biblical definition of marriage necessarily excludes homosexual, polygamous, and polyamorous relationships...The confession affirms that the differences between male and female are divinely ordained by God, since God created Adam and Eve as real people..." This is a very well thought out article. Please see link below. |
