The New Heavens and Earth
Rev 21
1And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
5And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
jgl comment: To me these scriptures speak of a New Earth with no strata containing dead corrupted fossilized things in it as there was no more sea. As well, God promised no more Flood as a judgment-see scripture below. Since the earth has stratified layers with dead things covering at least 70-80% of it (20% magma and lava layers) it is reasonable to accept it as having had, one time, a worldwide cataclysm.
Genesis 9
8 Then God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying,
9 “Now behold, I Myself am establishing My covenant with you, and with your [f]descendants after you;
10 and with every living creature that is with you: the birds, the livestock, and every animal of the earth with you; of all that comes out of the ark, every animal of the earth.
11 I establish My covenant with you; and all flesh shall never again be eliminated by the waters of a flood, nor shall there again be a flood to destroy the earth.”
12 God said, “This is the sign of the covenant which I am making between Me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations; 13 I have set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall serve as a sign of a covenant between Me and the earth.
jgl comment: The rainbow is a very important symbol and its meaning should not be distorted.
Isaiah 65
17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind…
25 The wolf and the lamb will graze together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox; and dust will be the serpent’s food. They will do no evil or harm on all My holy mountain,” says the Lord.
*No more death or dying, e.g. disease, in the New Earth.
jgl comment: I would encourage us to continue to believe the literal reading of God’s Word. He did judge the whole earth with the worldwide Flood and regionally He judged Sodom with a cataclysm.
