El Morro rock is a National Monument in the state of New Mexico. It has had a water source at its base for many hundreds of years. This has attracted people to it because of the scarcity of water in the region. There are petroglyphs on the rock from pueblo people (probably associated with the Zuni tribe) dated around 1200 AD. The Conquistadors including Onate inscribed on it in 1605 and de Vargas in 1692. Then later the US Army Lt Simpson, a surveyor, signed it in 1849. Settlers moving west in the mid to late 1800's inscribed their names on it. Now it stands as a monument to the fleeting times of their and our lives, and yet the rock continues to stand. In the same way, but much more permanent, Jesus Christ is our Rock and has each believer's name inscribed in the Book of Life of the Lamb who has been slain (Rev. 13:8). For it says, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16). Let us turn to the Lord with a full heart of repentance.
