Evolutionists have tried to argue against the Intelligent Design concept, and amazing both sides (Evolutionists and Creationists) still refer back to Darwin's difficulty with it. Yet, nothing has changed-one either chooses to accept some sort of convoluted progression complexity by "natural selection" which has not been demonstrated (actually observed) for the eye; or one accepts that an Intelligent Being made the eye, in all it various forms, to match with the organism that He designed.
However, the degradation of the structure of the eye through genetic disease or environmental conditions has been observed. For example:
"In short, recent advances in genomics have led to identification of new genes and variants responsible for a host of inherited and inflammatory diseases in ophthalmology specialty. In a true sense, developments have made a huge impact in our understanding of genetic basis of structural and functional defects and disease mechanisms underlying eye diseases. For example, in past genetic causes of Leber congenital amaurosis (LCA); an inherited retinal dystrophy which leads to severe vision loss, and age-related macular degeneration (AMD); one of the most common causes of blindness were unknown. Today, more than 20 LCA genes have been identified, and now genetic testing can be performed in majority of cases." (www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5767668/).
These observations do not support the concept of evolutionary advancement, and in fact argue against it. See articles below for more on the Intelligent Design of the Eye.
