JGL Note: All life forms have complex behaviors. Probably none so beautiful and fun as the chipmunk. It appears that they can be completely vegetarian if needed. This would have been the case before the Fall. When I look at the general appearance of the 3 types of chipmunks they are structurally very similar except for the hair patterning. Geographically, the T minimus extends towards Alaska (within Canada) and E sibiricus (Siberian form) extends to the very western reaches of Northern Asia. It is thought that there are similarities in the mDNA (Journal of Mammalian Evolution, Vol. 7, No. 3, 2000). Of course the data was placed within the context of phylogeny, but differences could be related to subsequent isolation post expansion westward post Flood and loss of the bridge across the Bering Strait. But, this is conjecture by myself given limited data that I have. Nonetheless, variations in animal forms do not need to be placed within an evolutionary framework. As well, humans should enjoy God's Creation but not worship it.
"Tamias minimus (Least Chipmunk)-seen in Sequoia National Park CA. Chipmunks are small, striped rodents of the family Sciuridae. Chipmunks are found in North America, with the exception of the Siberian chipmunk which is found primarily in Asia...Chipmunks may be classified either as a single genus...The genus name Tamias is Greek for "treasurer", "steward", or "housekeeper", which is a reference to the animals' role in plant dispersal through their habit of collecting and storing food for winter use...Chipmunks have an omnivorous diet primarily consisting of seeds, nuts and other fruits, and buds...as well as fungi, insects and other arthropods, small frogs, worms, and bird eggs....They mostly cache their foods in a larder in their burrows and remain in their nests until spring, unlike some other species which make many small caches of food.Cheek pouches allow chipmunks to carry food items to their burrows for either storage or consumption."
