There has been much excitement in the evolutionary biology community of what appear to be zygodactyl bird tracks in designated lower Cretaceous strata in China. The name of the tracks has been given Shandongornipes muxiai as no fossil bones have yet been found. Many have expressed astonishment about these bird tracks in designated dinosaur strata-as attempts continue to be made regarding the assumptions of bird to reptile (dinosaur) transition. As well, the fossil tracks are very similar to modern Roadrunner, Burrowing Owl and Northern Flicker tracks (all found in New Mexico and other states.) The term "convergent evolution" has been applied to the identical or near so tracks of living birds and the fossil ones-yet this is an assumption. Even the term stasis is problematic as there are many assumptions made in dating the age of various strata.(Note: I could have placed many quotes and references but these abound on the internet already. I hope to do a more extensive review for the website soon.)
The same data can be put into a world wide Flood in which there was an ebbing and flowing of muddy waters across vast continents and various life forms which had gathered into their groups were buried more so with one another-although other fossil life forms are found across continents. Both evolution and creation are religio-philosophic worldviews. The data can be placed into either framework.
However, true science is observational and these tracks and other modern and fossil ones could simply be discussed within the framework of structure/function. Yet, even this implies purpose and that fits more with a great designer.
